Is it OK to cut the whiskers on a dog?
It is generally not recommended to cut the whiskers on a dog, as this can cause discomfort and possible injury. The whiskers are used for navigation and balance, which could be compromised if they're removed. Additionally, cutting the whiskers maycause them to lose their sense of smell and become even more susceptible to infections.
How many times a month should a dog be groomed?
Some dog owners believe that their dog should be groomed every week, while others think that a monthly grooming is sufficient. It is important to take your dog's coat type and length into consideration when making this decision. Short-haired dogs, may only need to be groomed once a month, while long-haired dogs may require twice monthly grooming.
Is it proper to cut a Japanese Akita dog's hair?
This can be a difficult question to answer, as there is a lot of personal preference involved. Some people feel that Japanese Akitas should have their hair cut short, while others believe that it should be left long. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide what they believe is best for their dog. The Akita should never be clipped / shaved except in medical emergencies. Yes, there are "professional" groomers out there who will tell you to shave your Akita. Shaving/clipping makes Akitas more susceptible to skin allergies, sun burn and parasite infestation. The treatments for these problems can then lead to more serious conditions. The Akita “color-coat” also known as the top coat works as the reflective barrier. My professional opinion, never shave an Akita.
